Claire Murray, whose theatre company, Blunt Fringe, will stage its debut production on January 14 at the Lyric Theatre

THE stage is set for the opening night of Killyman woman Claire Murray’s debut production from her new theatre production company, Blunt Fringe, on Tuesday, January 14.

The World Goes Round, an all-star actor musician production, continues at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast until January 18 and includes songs from many of the shows made famous by Broadway icon Liza Minnelli, including Cabaret, The Act and Chicago.

Claire, who has recently moved home after living in London for several years, is a sister of the West End star, Fra Fee, who has appeared in countless musical and stage productions, as well as in the movie version of Les Miserables, alongside Hollywood legends Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman.

Her new theatre company aims to provide a professional platform for leading talents in musical theatre here.

Claire explains: “Blunt Fringe aims to produce interesting and exciting shows that will attract the stars of professional theatre, many of whom have left Northern Ireland to seek their fortune.

“The idea was inspired by the fringe theatre that exists mostly in London - which allows very successful actors and musicians to perform in smaller theatres between ‘proper’ jobs!

“We export a wealth of talent who leave Northern Ireland’s theatre industry to pursue global ambitions, and we want to entice them back now and again to perform to a home crowd.”

This production of The World Goes Round has an all-star cast of actor musicians, who between them have performed on the West End, off the West End, on national tour and on national TV.

And between them they will not only sing, dance and act but also play trumpet, saxophone, cello, piano, flute, ukulele, piano accordion, recorder, clarinet, glockenspiel and....kazoo!

Tickets are available from www.lyrictheatre.co.uk or by telephoning the Box Office on 028 9038 1081
