A spate of cigarette thefts from South Derry shops has prompted police to issue a warning to business owners to minimise the number of cigarettes they put on display.
It follows a burglary at a shop in Draperstown in the early hours of last Friday morning.
An intruder stole cigarettes from a display and made off with them in a recycling box.
The burglary was one of a number of similar incidents in the Magherafelt area over the past month.
In each case cigarettes have been stolen in early morning raids.
Police at Magherafelt are appealing for information.
They are also urging shopkeepers to minimise the number of cigarettes they leave in store displays overnight. Instead, cigarettes should be kept in a secure storeroom.
Information can be given by contacting the non-emergency number, 101. Alternatively, callers who do not wish to disclose their details can call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
