Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has announced the start of a major resurfacing scheme on the A6 Castledawson bypass.
The Minister said: “This scheme will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of the carriageway on this important Trunk Road between Belfast and Londonderry.”
Work will begin tomorrow (Friday) and is expected to last for three and a half weeks.
To help minimise any inconvenience to the travelling public and local businesses two-way traffic flow will be maintained during this period for the preliminary work, however a road closure will be required to facilitate the final resurfacing. The road closure will begin at 5am on 4 July 2014 for three days to 8pm on Sunday July 6.
During this period west-bound traffic will be diverted through Toomebridge to Magherafelt and east-bound through Castledawson, Hillhead and Bellaghy. Advisory signage to inform motorists of alternative routes avoiding the roadworks via Knockloughrim/Hillhead (east bound) and Magherafelt (west bound) will also be erected and maintained during the entire period of the scheme.
The work is subject to favourable weather and Roads Service will keep the public informed of any change.
