Maghera marathon runner Tommy Hughes has been recognised for his remarkable achievements by Magherafelt Council.

The runner, who won the Derry City Marathon last year at the age of 53, had competed for Ireland at the Olympics in 1992.

Magherafelt Chairperson Catherine Elattar paid tribute to Tommy for his long list of achievements and continuing success over the gruelling 26.2miles event.
