A number of shots were reportedly fired at a house in the Draperstown area over the weekend.

The dwelling at Drumard Road was hit by a number of high velocity shots on Saturday night.

There are no reports of anyone having been injured.

Magherafelt Sinn Féin councillor, Brian McGuigan said the incident happened at the home of a respected family.

“The local community have rallied in support of the young couple and their three-year-old child,” he said.

“They are known to be a hard working and much respected couple who enjoy family life. As they are highly regarded by their neighbours and local community, this incident comes as a total shock to everyone in the parish of Ballinascreen and neighbouring areas.

“Whatever the motives and intentions of the perpetrators, there is no place for guns in our society. We could have been dealing with a tragedy given that what appears to be a high velocity bullet having pierced double glazing before lodging in a wall.”
