A 21-year-old Magherafelt man who was found with a small quantity of herbal cannabis, was fined £315 at the local Magistrates Court.
Gareth Dobbin, of Rainey Court, admitted possessing the drug, estimated to have a street value of £10, on January 9.
A PPS lawyer said the cannabis was in a small plastic bag in the defendant’s pocket and was discovered during a search of property at Magherafelt Road, Castledawson.
Defence solicitor Stephen Atherton stressed the drug was for the defendant’s personal use.
Mr Atherton said Dobbin was an intelligent young man who had allowed his life to “drift”, but had learned a lesson for his court appearance.
A pre-sentence report was ordered in the case of Matthew McQuillan (20), of Magherafelt Road, Castledawson, who faces a similar charge.
