Magherafelt District Council may host a Sons of America Revolution Visit on May 4, when a delegation will visit Maghera and Upperlands.
The trip is due to the historical association of the area with Charles Thomson who penned the Declaration of Independence.
Thomson was born in Gorteade and lived in Gorteade Cottages and frequented Thomson House which was his father’s business - now Auction Room Cafe.
The 80-strong delegation, including retired judges and US Navy commanders, are expected to spend several hours in the area.
Maghera Historical Society will be helping the visiting party during their trip to South Derry.
