Magherafelt Sinn Féin councillor, Brian McGuigan took partin a number of fringe events at his party’s recent Ard Fheis in Wexford whille also putting a focus on protecting Rural Ireland during the conference section dealing with Environment, Energy and Infrastructure.
Cllr McGuigan said: “It was a great opportunity to meet up with so many elected representatives and policy advisors from across Ireland to discuss important issues in relation to Environment, Energy and Infrastructure.
“I was pleased to join my party colleagues Declan McAleer MLA and Barry McElduff MLA from West Tyrone as well as Cookstown councillor, Seán Clarke when we detailed the negative impact current proposals for a massive wind farm in the heart of the Sperrins would have on local communities and the potential for much needed tourism as a driver for our local economy.
“Interesting debate and discussion took place during a fringe event that dealt with dealt with Sinn Féin’s serious concerns and opposition to Eirgrid’s proposed pylon plans.
“The Ard Fheis adopted a composite motion from cumainn across Ireland calling for a united all-party front in opposition to the overgrounding of powerlines and to make the case for undergrounding.”
