A man who punched two female police officers during a row with his former partner, was fined a total of £415 at Magherafelt Magistrates Court.

William James Linton (51), Lismoyle Road, Swatragh, admitted assaulting the officers.

The court heard the incident happened at 5.30pm on April 26 while the officers were dealing with another matter.

A PPS lawyer said Linton became aggressive and punched one of the officers in the chest.

She said the other officer raised her arm to prevent the defendant punching her in the face and got struck on the arm, causing bruising.

A defence barrister said Linton wished to apologise to both officers.

He said defendant was having a row with his ex-partner as he had become frustrated with some of the items she was moving out.
