Toomebridge manufacturing company SDC Trailers has announced that the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children will be its charity partner for 2014.

The company, which is going through a period of strong growth and has always taken its corporate social responsibility seriously, has pledged to raise significant funds for the charity over the course of the year.

Macmillan is one of the charities it has previously supported.

SDC Director Darren Donnelly said the company was hugely impressed by NICFC.

“We’re delighted to announce that our charity partner this year will be the NI Cancer Fund for Children. We were hugely impressed with their presentation, and the work they do across Northern Ireland. We liked the fact that they are a Northern Ireland only charity, and with their clear commitment to the children whom they help,” he said.

Mr Donnelly said management were particularly impressed by the practical nature of their support for children with cancer, and their families.

Every week in Northern Ireland, another three children, teenagers or young adults, aged between birth and 24 years old, are diagnosed with cancer. NICFC provides practical, financial and emotional support in the family home, in the community and on the hospital ward.

Chief Executive Gillian Creevy said that the fact that SDC had committed to such significant financial support would make a real difference to the children and families which NICFC supports,

“We are absolutely thrilled to have been selected as SDC Trailers’ charity partner for 2014. This commitment to our work means a great deal to us and the families we support across Northern Ireland whose lives have been devastated by a childhood cancer diagnosis,” she said.

She added that 2014 is a special year for Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children as they prepare to welcome families to Daisy Lodge, the brand new therapeutic centre in the Mournes.
