Cookstown District Council have announced that following “discussions and the hard work of the contractors” Fairhill play park will partially reopen as early as tomorrow (Saturday July, 12).

In a statement Cookstown District Council said: “We listened and took all your comments on board and following discussions and a lot of hard work by the Contractors we are pleased to announce that part of the Fairhill play park will reopen tomorrow (Saturday).

“The new/extended area will be completed early August. We would like to thank the public for their understanding and look forward to a fabulous town play park very soon.”

The council revealed recenetly that they had been successful in securing over 90% funding from the EU Peace III Programme to renovate Fairhill Play park in the town.

To avail of the funding the project must be completed by September 2014, and parents originally reacted angrily when it was first revealed that the play park would be closed for 5-6 weeks over the summer holidays.

A Council spokesperson said: “Cookstown District Council are committed to providing excellent facilities for children and the new and extended play park will support physical and emotional wellbeing, provide opportunities for positive social interaction, learning, health and independence.

“The Council at this stage would like to thank the public for their understanding and looks forward with confidence to a fabulous town play park that citizens of all ages will enjoy.”
