Magherafelt District Council has ambitious plans to transform The Plantin Park in Draperstown.
The six-acre site has suffered from vandalism over the years but the Council hopes to turn it into a ’family friendly’ park.
Local Sinn Féin councillor Brian McGuigan welcomed the design for an entrance feature to the Park as presented by council officials recently. The entrance feature will be created on the site of the old toilets at Derrynoid Road.
Councillor McGuigan said: “The design is in keeping with the local surroundings and the entrance feature will not attract the same attention from vandals as the public toilets as it is low level and cannot be hidden behind in the same way. The entrance feature will provide seating space and picnic tables in the heart of Draperstown.
“I’m pleased to be informed that work at the Plantin Park,Moykeeran is progressing well and that most of the infrastructural work is now complete and that the biodiversity work has begun with the removal of invasive species. This is just one project which is testament to the great community spirit we have in the parish of Ballinascreen, with local people determined to enhance their community and local environment. “
