TWO Magherafelt men are well into a charity Indoor Ironman Challenge in aid of Cancer Focus.

Rodney Young and Paul McErlain started early Friday morning - around 7am - and hope to finish at 7pm tonight.

They are based at the town’s Greenvale Leisure Centre.

Their marathon effort began with a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 miles on the static bike.

Later today will embark on a 26.2 mile marathon on treadmills - something, they say, they are not trying to think about!

Community Fundraising Officer with Cancer Focus, Emma McCann, praised both men who have completed Ironman events in the past and are members of Magherafelt Harriers.

“Rodney and Paul are elite athletes and their undertaking today is just incredible to witness,” she said.

“They are doing it for Cancer Focus and we want to put on record our appreciation for what they are doing.”

Emma thanked Greenvale Leisure Centre staff and management for all their help and support in staging the event.

You can donate to the Indoor Ironmen2 challenge by texting CASP 50 £2 to 70070, or visit the charity’s website.
