Eunan Shaw is the deserved winner of the Mid-Ulster Mail and Tyrone Times Sports Personality of the Month award for January, in association with the Glenavon House Hotel and Sense Nightclub.
Eunan was chosen because of the starring role he played as the Rainey Endowed School 1st XV eliminated the much-fancied Belfast Royal Academy side from the Schools Cup.
Eunan scored two terrific tries, the first of them in the opening half as he took the ball at pace to break the first tackle. When he found himself in space, he showed great composure and footwork to beat the fullback and covering winger to score a fantastic individual try close to the posts.
Then, from a line-out in the second half, Anton Lupari crashed the ball up and, from the resulting ruck, Eunan received the ball and made a storming run to break a number of tackles and get his second touchdown.
Accompanied by his father, Fergal, and the school coach, Chris Campbell, Eunan was in the Intersport shop in Cookstown to be presented with his award by proprietor John McConnell, watched by chief sponsor Brian Morris of the Glenavon House Hotel amongst others.
