Carntogher Sinn Féin Councillor Sean McPeake has called on DRD Roads Service to provide within their forward programme of works the provision of a footpath link on the Quarry Road Gulladuff between its junction with Drumard Road and Lavey GAC club grounds.

Councillor Mc Peake was speaking with Divisional Roads Service Manager Conor Loughrey at the monthly meeting of Magherafelt District Council.

He said: “This is a particularly dangerous stretch of road which is extensively used by a lot of pedestrians and in particular young people who walk to the nearby gaelic club.

“The narrow roadway which carries a lot of heavy traffic and HGVs from the nearby quarry has no footpath link. The Quarry Road is heavily utilised by running, walking and cycling clubs making usage of the road extremely dangerous. I have often witnessed youngsters having to stand on steep and dangerous verges.”
