16,000 homes to benefit from multi-million boiler scheme

THOUSANDS of homes across Mid-Ulster are to benefit from a £12 million boiler scheme being rolled out by the Department of Social Development.

Residents with a boiler dating past the 15 year mark and earning under £40,000 will have the chance to have them replaced by the scheme which DSD Minister Nelson McCausland plans to launch in September.

Welcoming the news by his party colleague Ian McCrea said: “I am delighted by the announcement from Minister McCausland of this vital scheme which is to launch in September and run by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive and I trust that it will go some way in making homes both cost and energy efficient.

“The grant of up to £1,000 dependent on total gross income is available to assist in replacing an inefficient boiler for a more energy efficient condensing oil or gas boiler; switching from oil to gas; or switching to a wood pellet boiler.”

“I would encourage all those who think they may be eligible to call now on 0300 200 7874 to find out more and check if they can apply or check the NI Direct website at http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/news-may12-boiler-replacement-scheme-being-introduced,”

Mr McCrea continued: “If I can be of any assistance or for further information, contact either of my constituency offices in Magherafelt - 028 796 32664 or Cookstown - 028 867 64952.”
