£2m Investment gets underway at Annagher, Coalisland

NI Water is pleased to announce that a new £2million investment to improve the sewerage infrastructure in the Annagher area of Coalisland will get underway this month.

NI Water intends to construct a new Pumping Station at Annagher, which will improve the sewerage network and accommodate future development in the Coalisland area.

The project will also involve the installation of new gravity sewers and a pumping main, which will lead to Coalisland Wastewater Treatment Works. Work will get underway in March 2013 and will continue until January 2014.

The original Annagher Wastewater Pumping Station is located on the Washing Bay Road and was originally constructed fifty years ago. The pumping station is an important asset in the area, receiving the majority of sewerage flows from the Coalisland sewerage network and forwarding flows to Coalisland Wastewater Treatment Works.

This project is good news for the local area as the new Annagher Wastewater Pumping Station and associated sewerage pipeline works will provide many benefits, such as improving the capacity of the existing sewerage system and reducing the risk of out-of-sewer flooding in the Washing Bay Road area.

The project will also improve the river water quality in the local Blackwater River and surrounding watercourses, and will ensure that NI Water meets Northern Ireland Environment Agency Standards for the local environment.

There will be associated traffic and pedestrian restrictions required throughout this project to allow the works to be completed in a safe environment. This will include lane and road closures in the area at certain times, as agreed with DRD Roads Service. The main road closures will take place on the Washing Bay Road, Gortgonis Road and the Hackingblock Road.
