Bellaghy kids clean up village!
BELLAGHY GAA under 10’s have taken part in a local “litter picking” fundraiser, which saw them collect almost 30 bags of rubbish. Sponsored by family, friends and local business, the youngsters give up their Sunday morning to clean up the village and raise funds at the same time.
Councillor Ian Milne who also took part said:
“This has been an excellent initiative and I would like to commend the organisers for using this fundraiser to teach a valuable lesson about the effects of littering, for highlighting the work that it takes to keep our streets tidy and for encouraging within our young people a sense of pride in their local area.
“People will be aware of the drive to enhance the visual image of Bellaghy and of the planned investment which aims to build on and promote a genuine sense of community. Today the Under 10’s have led by example and are credit to the village”.
Paul Cassidy, one of the organisers added:
“I would like to take this opportunity to say well done and thank you to everyone who took part and helped out in any way; to all those who collected sponsorships, those who so generously donated and to Magherafelt Districts council for the pickers, gloves and bags. Most importantly though, well done to all the “litter pickers” for all your hard work and enthusiasm.”
