THOUSANDS are attending a St Patrick’s Day celebration in Magherafelt this afternoon.

Despite cold conditions the rain has kept away as the procession makes its way through the streets. Hosted by Desertmartin Ancient Order of Hibernians, there are AOH divisions from Derry, Tyrone, Armagh, Antrim, Down, Donegal and Cavan, and 25 bands taking part.

The South Derry town last hosted a Patrick’s Day parade 12 years ago.

Full coverage of the event in this week’s Mid-Ulster Mail.
