Business elite make history at glittering awards ceremony

A GLITTERING gala which honoured the area’s business elite witnessed a remarkable mingling of rich history with the finest modern economic leaders at the 2012 Mid-Ulster Business Awards.

Hosted in the breathtaking surroundings of the Hill of the O’Neill in Dungannon - coveted for its strategic importance in Ulster - the awards ceremony honoured the brightest stars from the Cookstown, Magherafelt and Dungannon Council areas.

Regional Development Minister, Danny Kennedy, was among the invited guests who enjoyed a sumptuous meal followed by entertainment from comedian Tim McGarry.

Cookstown based CFC Interiors picked up the prestigious title of Best Retailer, while the Lissan House Trust beat off stiff competition to take home the Excellence in Tourism award.

Best Export Business went to TES (NI) Ltd, based in Cookstown’s Kilcronagh Business Park, while local architect and entrepreneur Johann Muldoon was hailed Business Person of the Year.

Local eateries the Tilley Lamp Ardboe, and the Harbour Chippy, Moortown were also honoured in the reader’s categories taking home Readers Favourite Restaurant, and Readers Favourite Cafe/Takeaway respectively.

Winners in each of the 14 categories received a one-off piece from a local artist which used stone from the famous Castle Hill site, with prizes presented for excellence in people development, customer service and environmental impact among other areas.

The highlight of the evening, however, undoubtedly came when Dungannon French teacher, turned successful chartered accountant, Sean Cavanagh, was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his “devoted dedication” to business.
