Cookstown jobs boost welcomed by MLA

MID-ULSTER Unionist MLA Sandra Overend, has welcomed the news that a £1 million investment will create 15 new jobs in Cookstown, with the expansion of local firm Sperrin Tube Supplies.

The precision engineering company, founded last year, is to employ new staff in skilled manufacturing and product engineering roles, having made the investment with the support of Invest Northern Ireland.

Mrs Overend, who is the Ulster Unionist Party’s spokesperson for the economy, said:

“This significant investment is positive news for Mid-Ulster, with the creation of new jobs and the potential for further growth very welcome. Sperrin Tube Supplies is a company which has already made an ambitious investment at their premises in specialised equipment, and this will build on that.

“The Mid-Ulster area continues to have a strong reputation for high quality engineering, but like the rest of the country has not escaped the effects of the global recession, so this development is encouraging.

“Sperrin Tube Supplies will hopefully continue to grow and exploit the market opportunities they have identified across the British Isles, with the support of Invest Northern Ireland.

“It is important that our local businesses are given the support that they need to expand, create jobs and take advantage of market opportunities, and I commend the work that Invest NI has done in this case.”
