Cyclist refused to stop for police

A MONEYMORE teenager who was stopped by police because she was cycling without lights on, has appeared before East Tyrone Magistrates Court.

Catherine Louise Devlin, 19, from Woodvale Crescent, pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to stop for police, arising out of the incident on the evening of May 5.

Police saw the teenager riding her bike at Market Street in Moneymore at approximately 9.20pm, “during the hours of darkness”, a prosecutor explained.

When Devlin was asked to stop by the officers, she refused their instructions and cycled on.

Devlin’s lawyer described the incident as a “somewhat trivial matter”, but said his client realised she should have stopped when asked to do so.

District Judge Bonita Boyd imposed a conditional discharge for 12 months in the case.
