Drumming up success

IT'S a double success as two bands from the Cookstown district drummed their way to success at the weekend.

The Matt Boyd Memorial Pipe Band from Pomeroy were placed first in grade 4A, making them British champions in their class, while Tullylagan were declared drumming champions in Grade 4B at the British Pipe Band Championships in Banbridge.

Ulster Unionist Councillor for Cookstown, Trevor Wilson said he wanted to congratulate the bands on their tremendous achievement.

“I want to wish them every success for the rest of the season and also for the World Pipe Band Championships in August,” he said.

Early rain gave way to a warm, if overcast afternoon, as thousands of spectators converged on Banbridge for the second major championship of the season, which had attracted entries from more than 100 bands and 50 drum majors.
