Drunk man was celebrating his cousin’s birthday

A DUNGANNON man who held his shirt up, with a wine bottle in one hand, in front of Magherafelt traffic was given a four month prison sentence suspended for 18 months.

Eamon McElkenny (22) from Maplebrook Court was also ordered to pay a court levy of £15 ahen he admitted using disorderly behaviour and causing criminal damage at Broad Street and Church Street, Magherafelt on October 21.

The court heard McElkenny held his shirt up in front of traffic while holding a wine bottle.

A defence solicitor said McElkenny has a record he is not proud of. However, the solicitor said his family has had a calming influence on him.

He said McElkenny had been out celebrating his cousin’s birthday and unfortunately drank too much. He said the whole party was so intoxicated that they were refused entry to establishments.

District Judge Des Perry said McElkenny had behaved this way as a result of alcohol.
