European plea in Michaela case

THE EUROPEAN parliament has been urged to press the Mauritian authorities for justice in the Michaela McAreavy murder case.

Sinn Fein MEP Martina Anderson asked Martin Schulz, the President of the European Parliament, “to do all in their power to ensure that justice is finally delivered” in the case.

It is a year and eight months since the 27-year-old teacher from Ballygawley was found strangled in her hotel room on the island.

Two former hotel workers were subsequently acquitted of the murder of the honeymooner.

Ms. Anderson said on Monday last that it was “imperative that the eyes of the international community remain on the Mauritian authorities and pressure continues to be exerted upon them.”
