Former All Ireland medallist picks up top music title
FORMER Tyrone All Ireland medallist, Mickey Coleman, has taken his music career to new heights after winning a prestigious IMA award for Top Solo Performer 2012.
The awards recognise the Irish music industry’s Most Accomplished Artists and Performing Groups.
During the 5th Annual Irish Music Award (IMA) presentation ceremony, the IMA recognized outstanding Irish artists in 18 different categories, from Best Irish Tenor to Top Celtic Rock Band Worldwide.
This year’s event took place in Weston, Missouri.
“The Irish Music Association is the premier organization recognizing and celebrating outstanding Irish artists from Ireland, America, and beyond”, said IMA Executive Director, R. T. Reeder.
“Every year, we are astounded by the vast array of musicians in the Irish music industry, as well as the enthusiastic support from the many fans of Irish music across the world.
“The Saturday 26th January awards ceremony included an exceptional performance by Tyrone singer/songwriter, Mickey Coleman, now living in New York and who was the recipient of top solo performer 2012 in Ireland, US,UK and Europe.
“Coleman’s ability to write and perform songs that capture the hearts of many has been well recognised by winning this award.
“We are honoured to have an artist like Mickey Coleman among our recipients and to introduce his talent to the world’s stage.”
At the event in Kansas, which was streamed across the world, Coleman performed three original songs and finished by thanking everyone for supporting his music with a special mention to everyone watching in his native County Tyrone.
Joel Nichols of KMBC-TV presented Mickey Coleman with his award.
