Get ready for digital switchover

SDLP Mid Ulster MLA Patsy McGlone has urged all constituents to ensure that they are “digital ready” for the switchover to a digital only TV signal on 10 October.

Mr McGlone said: “Everyone should ensure that they are digital ready and that all television sets are capable of receiving the digital signal in plenty of time for the 10 October switchover.

“There is help available from the Switchover Help Scheme for anyone who is eligible disabled, aged 75 or over, registered blind or partially sighted or anyone who has lived in a care home for 6 months or more (www.helpscheme.co.uk).

“The basic package available there costs £40, including installation and an aftercare 12 month free helpline, but it is free if you or someone you care for is eligible and also gets certain income-related benefits. Those benefits are pension credits, income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA(IR)), income support, or income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance.

“The scheme should be getting in contact with all those eligible for help and my office is available for anyone requiring assistance.”
