Health Board issues 'flu advice

THE Primary Care Directorate of the Northern Health and Social Services Board has highlighted that there has been a sudden increase in the number of people attending their doctors with flu and flu like symptoms within the past two weeks.

Coming up to the Christmas and New Year period there are a number of things that people can do to help themselves if they catch flu.

If you are feeling unwell stay indoors and keep warm, drink plenty of fluids and take the pain relief that you normally use to make yourself comfortable. Some people may want to try a flu remedy that already contains paracetamol. Make sure you have a stock of home remedies in the house, before the holiday period.

Anyone over 65 or in an at risk group who has not had their ‘flu injection this year should contact their practice to arrange to have one as soon as possible.

If you are concerned about your symptoms or need more advice this is available from your local pharmacist. Information on practice holiday closing and Dalriada Urgent care opening times is available in the Mid-Ulster Mail and the Northern Board web site, www.nhssb.n-i.nhs.uk if it you need to contact a doctor.
