Homeowners urged to be vigilant

WITH the digital television switchover due to continue this week, police in F District are advising local people to be wary of bogus approaches.

A spokesman said: “There has been considerable publicity about the switchover, and by now most people will have made arrangements for the necessary adjustments to be carried out.

“What we are concerned about is that fraudsters may use the opportunity to try to exploit any uncertainty that exists.

“If you are approached by callers offering to retune televisions or check aerials, do not avail of their services unless you know who they are.

“If you do need any technical assistance, contact the helpline numbers that have been widely publicised, or a reputable local dealer or aerial erector.

“Remember, even when you have made arrangements for someone to call, check out their identities before allowing them into your home.”
