CHILDREN from two Cookstown primary schools had the opportunity to meet with the author of a popular new book when they visisted the town library yesterday, Wednesday.

Sally Gardner, who wrote Operation Bunny, visited a number of libraries throughout Northern Ireland as part of a special tour.

Operation Bunny is the first in a brand new series “brimming with mystery and magic” by the million-copy-selling author.

Emily Vole makes headline news in the first weeks of her life, when she is found in an abandoned hatbox in Stansted Airport.

Then, only a few years later, her neighbour Mrs String dies leaving Emily a mysterious inheritance: an old shop, a small bunch of golden keys and a cat called Fidget.

It’s the beginning of an adventure of a lifetime as the old Fairy Detective Agency comes back to life. It is up to Emily to reopen the shop, and recall the fairies to duty.

Together they must embark on their first mystery and do battle with their great fairy-snatching enemy, Harpella.

Damian Smyth, Head of Literature with the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, said:

“With book sales in excess of 1.5 million and novels translated into 22 languages across the globe, Sally Gardner is undoubtedly one of the most exciting and successful children’s authors writing today.

“It really is a pleasure to welcome her here to Northern Ireland for this very special libraries tour and much credit goes to Dog Ears for this inventive programming.

“After all, there is nothing quite like hearing a story told in the author’s own voice and, as a reader, discovering the simple pleasure to be found when we immerse ourselves in a good book.”
