Macmillan wants to put a smile on your mug this September

CHAIRPERSON of Cookstown District Council, John McNamee, is encouraging everyone in the borough to support or take part in the World's Biggest Coffee Morning this year on Friday September 24, for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The World's Biggest Coffee Morning is in twentieth year and is one of the largest fundraising events in the UK.

Last year across Northern Ireland alone over 900 coffee mornings were held raising an amazing total of 235,000.

This year with your help we want to make it bigger and better.

Macmillan's fundraising manager in the area Maria McGleenon said: "Macmillan is available to all cancer patients and their families from the moment they receive their cancer diagnosis.

"Our doctors and nurses offer specialist medical care and emotional support, while our benefits advisors help cancer patients get the government benefits and grants they are entitled to.

"Macmillan also provides grants to people with cancer who are struggling financially. All the services we offer are essential, and we rely on the money raised from events like the World's Biggest Coffee Morning to fund them.”

Fundraising manager Maria McGleenon added: "The World's Biggest Coffee Morning is a really fun event that is really easy to take part in, especially as you can tailor it to suit yourself.

"If you can't do it on September 24, then pick another day, if you're not keen on coffee and would rather have cocktails or even herbal tea then that's fine as well.

"All that matters is that you take part and help us raise more money from this year's coffee morning than ever before and remember that all money raised locally will be spent locally."
