Magherafelt Policing and Community Safety Partnership launches

MAGHERAFELT Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) is a new body that aims to make our community safer by focussing on the policing and community safety issues that matter most in the Magherafelt council area.
It will work in a more joined up way to the benefit of local communities. The PCSP has a Policing Committee to take forward specific police monitoring and engagement functions, with the wider PCSP taking forward community safety related functions.
Councillor Sean McPeake, Chairman of the PCSP, said: “The objective of the new PCSP is to make a difference to our community by making Magherafelt a safer place to live. Over the coming months we will be holding a number of public meetings to engage with our local communities and discuss the community safety and policing issues facing them. The PCSP is a multiagency body which will work together with the community to help address the issues raised with us.”
In making communities safer the PCSP will - consult and engage with the local community on the issues of concern in relation to policing and community safety.
The Policing Committee has a responsibility to provide views to the relevant district commander and the Policing Board on policing matters identify and prioritise the particular issues of concern and prepare plans for how these can be tackled.
monitor - a Policing Committee comprising the political and independent members will monitor the performance of the police and work to gain the co-operation of the public with the police in preventing crime.
Improve community confidence in policing whilst delivering a reduction in crime and enhancing community safety within the district through the work of delivery groups or through support for the work of others.
Magherafelt PCSP currently has eight political members, seven independent members of the community and representatives from PSNI, NIHE, Youth Justice Agency, NI Fire and Rescue, and Probation Board NI.
The PCSP is a statutory body established under the Justice Act (Northern Ireland) 2011 and brings together the functions and responsibilities of District Policing Partnerships (DPPs) and Community Safety Partnerships (CSPs). The new partnership The PCSP is funded jointly by the Department of Justice and the Northern Ireland Policing Board.
