Magherafelt ‘saddened’ by mum’s death

THE woman who died in yesterday’s house fire in Magherafelt has been named locally as Jolene McCloskey.

The cause of the fire which killed the 32-year-old mother of three is still being investigated.

SDLP Magherafelt Councillor Jim Campbell said the community is deeply saddened at the death.

“This is such a terrible tragedy and my heart goes out to the deceased’s family and friends,” he said.

“People in Magherafelt are extremely saddened at this accident, particularly given that three young children have lost their mother.

“Jolene used to play camogie at O’Donovan Rossa GAC and was held in very high-esteemed by her club community.

“Our thoughts are with those close to Jolene as they try to come to terms with her death. I have no doubt that people here will be supportive of her family in the difficult days, weeks and months which lie ahead.”

DUP Mid-Ulster MLA Ian McCrea also extended his sympathy to the family.

He said: “I was totally shocked to hear of the tragic death of this young women in her 30’s who sadly passed away in a house fire in the Greenvale Park area of Magherafelt yesterday morning and I want to assure the entire family circle of my thoughts and prayers at this time.

“Jolene was well known within the community and the people of Magherafelt will mourn the tragic loss of this mother of three.”
