Magherafelt traffic delays expected

MOTORISTS are warned to expect delays as a £90,000 resurfacing works gets underway in Magherafelt on Monday.

Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy announced the start of a £90,000 major resurfacing scheme on Union Road Magherafelt this week.

The work is due to begin on between Broad Street and Garden Street.

The Minister said: “This scheme will improve the strength and surface quality of this busy road in Magherafelt”.

“To help minimise any inconvenience to the travelling public and local businesses the majority of this work is programmed to be completed using lane closures.

“The lane closures will commence on 8 October and continue until 27 October. During the lane closures access for traffic in each direction will be maintained.

A full closure of the Union Road will be in place on October 21, 24, 25, and 28 to allow final surfacing. Traffic will be diverted Via Tobermore Road, Garden Street, Rainey Street, and Broad Street.

The scheme is expected to be completed on October 29.

The dates are subject to favourable weather conditions and Roads Service will keep the public informed of any change.

Roads Service has carefully programmed the works operations and traffic management arrangements in order to minimise any inconvenience to the public, however motorists should be aware that some delays may be expected and that additional time should be allowed when planning any journeys.
