Magherafelt's biggest ever Information Day
THE New Meadows Community Partnership, Magherafelt have organised the town's biggest ever Information Day for Saturday 21 November 2009 in the Greenvale Leisure Centre from 12 noon – 3pm.
The event is supported by the office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM) and Magherafelt District Council.
Chairperson of the New Meadows Community Partnership, Mr Martin Loughran, said that the event is to inform all residents living within the Magherafelt District Council area of the services that are available. It is a good idea to bring all of these services under “the one roof” for a day, as they operate from separate offices throughout our towns and villages.
People will therefore have the opportunity on Saturday 21 November 2009, to see at a glance just what is available.
“The event is timely”, he said, “As in the run up to Christmas people have concerns about money, alcohol abuse, domestic violence and indeed, loneliness.”
The Magherafelt Advice Service will be on hand to help people with debt and benefit issues. “Due to the current recession”, said Mr Loughran , “There are many people without jobs and the Advice Service can provide them with assistance and guidance.”
TIPSA, an organisation giving support to those affected by the abuse of alcohol and drugs will be present to offer help. Too often, many families are plunged into misery over the Christmas period due to, in particular, alcohol abuse, and the TIPSA representatives can help.
Hand-in-hand with alcohol abuse comes domestic violence, whether physical or mental and the staff from Women’s Aid can help with this issue.
Over 40 service providers will be available on Saturday 21 November 2009 in the Greenvale Leisure Centre, Magherafelt to help with a wide range of problems and issues. Admission to this event is free and refreshments will be available.
