Mairead brought hairdressing to Magherafelt
MAIREAD Ludlow (formally Coogan) aged 51 died peacefully in her home on 11 January 2012.
Mairead was a hairdresser in Magherafelt for 30 years, having learned her trade in Michelle’s salon Belfast.
Her first salon “Chic and Stunning” opened in Broad Street Magherafelt in 1981. The salon thrived as Mairead’s reputation grew. Her success in competitions and the hair shows she produced earned her great respect .
Mairead lived in Dublin for a few years, but on her return continued to work from her salon at her home.
Scissor Sisters was opened by Mairead and her friend and business partner Jean in 2005. Mairead ran her business there until January 2011 when she had to retire due to illness.
This was a huge blow to Mairead as her love and talent for hairdressing had made her not only clients but friends who had been loyal to her, some as long as 30 years.
Mairead’s sense of fun and humour was legendary and many stories and jokes were exchanged while hair was being styled.
Many compliments - a testament to her talents - have been made to Mairead’s family from those who worked with her and for her. Clients and hairdressers alike have spoken highly of Mairead, one saying: “Mairead brought hairdressing to Magherafelt”.
This statement sums up Mairead’s enthusiasm, commitment and love of hairdressing. Mairead is survived by her two children Sean and Megan who were her inspiration and her life.
