Man faces child sex charges

A MAN is to stand trial on seven charges of indecently assaulting a young girl dating back 37 years.

The 56-year-old, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the girl, is alleged to have committed the offences between January 1 1975 and December 31 1981.

In reply to a question from District Judge Des Perry, a prosecuting lawyer said the alleged injured party first made a formal complaint to police in May 2010.

Mr Perry said he would grant anonymity to the defendant as there was a familia connection.

The accused was returned for arraignment, on bail of £500, at Londonderry Crown Court on January 22 when he appeared at Magherafelt Magistrates Court.
