Man facing trial over death of Cookstown woman
A MAN charged with causing the death of an 83-year-old Cookstown woman by dangerous driving will face trial.
Appearing at a preliminary enquiry at East Tyrone Magistrate's Court was Mantas Paulionis, 33, from Aghalee Road in Craigavon.
He stands accused of causing the death of Elizabeth Campton on Ballynakelly Road on August 4 last year.
The 83-year-old from Coagh Street in Cookstown, died in a two vehicle collision with a white Transit van close to the Tamnamore Roundabout.
The collision occurred near the junction of the Drumaspill Road and the Ballynakelly Road around 6pm.
It is understood the deceased was returning from visiting a family member in hospital when the accident occurred. Four others - two women and two men - were taken to hospital following the collision.
The accused is further charged with three counts of causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving, one count of no insurance, dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink.
District Judge John Meehan remanded the defendant in custody to appear at Omagh Crown Court on February 17.
