A MESSAGE in a bottle competition is being launched by Magherafelt District Council to mark the 10th anniversary of the blue bin recycling initiative.

The idea is to have householders put their contact details into plastic bottles that they recycle in their blue bin.

Then each month when the material is returned to the Council depot for onward transfer two or three of the bottles will be retrieved each month.

The lucky winners will receive a £50 cash reward. Individuals can only win once and the more plastic bottles you recycle the more chance you have of winning – encouraging increased recycling of plastic bottles.

The competition will be start in October and continue for one year, costing the Council £1,500 spread over two years.
