Movie star Fra set to enjoy local Les Miserables premiere
Fans of Fra Fee, left, from Killyman, will finally get to see him make his big screen debut tomorrow night, January 11, when the Les Miserables movie, starring Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman, hits cinemas across the UK.
FAMILY, friends and fans of a flourishing young actor from Killyman will finally have the chance to see him make his big screen debut at a special premiere of the new Les Miserables film tomorrow night.
Fra Fee, only son of Frank and Collette Fee, worked alongside Hollywood giants Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman in the hotly anticipated movie version of the world famous musical.
Speaking to the Tyrone Times from London before Christmas, where he is now regularly based, Fra described the experience of sharing the screen with the acting legends as “incredible”.
He also explained how being able to work so closely with such established actors was a big learning experience for him.
Fra can be seen in the Les Miserables movie when it hits cinemas across the UK tomorrow, Friday.
The talented young actor and singer landed the movie role of Courfeyrac, one of the revolutionary students and right-hand man to leader Enjolras, following a lengthy audition process.
Fra was given the opportunity to try out for the movie as he had been appearing in the West End production of Les Miserables at the time, playing the part of Jean Prouvaire and covering the roles of Marius and Enjolras.
Tomorrow night, around 100 of his family, friends and supporters are due to attend a special premiere event to mark the opening of the film at Cookstown’s Ritz Cinema.
Fra’s professional acting career began immediately after he graduated from the Royal Academy of Music, when he landed the part of Billy in the West End production of Dirty Dancing.
This was followed by a tour of Fame, a Christmas in Dublin playing Aladdin, then Les Miserables in London for a year.
Describing his fascinating career as “a great journey so far”, Fra told the Times about how he came to be cast in the forthcoming film.
“After about four auditions and a long time waiting, I was offered the role of Courfeyrac in the movie. Courfeyrac is one of the revolutionary students, right-hand man to leader Enjolras and mate of the young street urchin Gavroche.
“The entire experience shooting the film was just incredible. I worked closely with Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman.
“Getting to work with actors who are so brilliant in their own craft of screen work was an amazing learning experience. On screen acting is so very different to performing onstage so to see these fine screen actors at work was just brilliant.
“I also admired Eddie Redmayne, a really fine young British actor with a beautiful singing voice as well; I learned a lot from him - a very intelligent performer.”
