THE man who died in Saturday’s house fire in Cookstown has been named as 59-year-old David Major.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire which happened in Cooke Crescent yesterday afternoon. However, they are not treating it as suspicious at this stage.

Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service station commander Alan Martin said that when crews first arrived they were met with a “very intense” fire.

“Breathing apparatus was put on and fire crews were committed and quickly got the fire under control,” he said. “Unfortunately there was one male fatality.”
