‘No more cuts’ - Council hits back at Trust in TYC response
COOKSTOWN District Council has hit back at a series of locally proposed health cuts telling the Northern Trust - we already have unacceptable levels of poor care.
Representatives and council officers met on Friday to compile a response to the Trust’s ‘Transforming Your Care’ (TYC) consultation document.
It was presented to councillors at a special health board meeting held in the council’s offices last Tuesday.
During the meeting elected representatives were told that Westlands Residential Home could be closed, and that Dalriada Doctor on Call should be moved from Moneymore to a building on the Mid-Ulster Hospital site.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Cookstown District Council said it welcomed the opportunity to respond to the document but added it had “major problems with much of the content”,
“These concerns sit on top of other serious ongoing concerns the Council has – and has had for many years – about the unacceptably poor levels of core health and care services which are being presented to the people of our District and wider mid-Ulster.
“The current evidence is that many of these poor levels of service are actually deteriorating,” it read.
The cut off point for responding to the proposals was January 15th.
The statement also outlined a number of points council felt backed up its strong opposition to any further retraction of services in the area.
“Transforming Your Care merely proposes to build on the model of acute hospital care which has been developed for the population of the centre/greater west of NI and which has not delivered for the communities and people in this region,” read the response.
“More of the same is clearly unacceptable. Indeed, a complete reappraisal of local needs and a radical reconfiguration of the acute care model are required.”
The council also hit out at the poor Ambulance response times for the area.
“Despite suffering the poorest levels of hospital care in NI, the people of Cookstown/mid-Ulster continue to suffer, despite many commitments to improve it, one of the poorest levels of ambulance performance in NI: immediate action is required to put in place an appropriate service.”
