'No place for knife crime' – McPeake
SOUTH Derry Sinn Fein councillor Sean McPeake has hit out at knife crime in society.
His comments came following the death of a former Toome man in a flat at Hillhead, near Castledawson.
The 24-year-old victim, named locally as Michael McLaughlin, was stabbed around 10.20pm last night.
A man in his 20s was arrested nearby and is being questioned by the PSNI detectives.
"Thankfully it is not a common offence here within the Magherafelt district but incidents like this are just not on," he said Mr McPeake.
SDLP MLA for Mid-Ulster Patsy McGlone said: "This is a quiet, small, rural town and people in Castledawson are extremely shocked that this murder has taken place in their midst.
"Nobody has the right to take life and we certainly do not want this kind of brutal violence in our community."
