Ombudsman renews appeal after tragic Maghera death

POLICE Ombudsman investigators have renewed their appeal for information about the circumstances which led to the tragic death of 21-year-old Paul Somerville.
Paul died last week from injuries sustained after falling from the rear of a moving police van at Church Road, Maghera, on 27 January.
Police Ombudsman investigators will be in the town tomorrow (Friday 10 February), two weeks to the day after the incident, in a bid to identify additional witnesses.
Investigators will be speaking to motorists at Church Road between 1pm and 2pm.
A spokesman for the Police Ombudsman’s Office said: “We have already identified a number of witnesses and carried out forensic and other investigative work to establish the circumstances of what happened.”
Anyone who has any further information, or who may have seen a police van travelling along the Crew, Station and Church roads in Maghera at about 1.20pm on Friday 27 January, is asked to contact the Police Ombudsman’s freephone witness appeal line on 0800 032 7880.
