Overend praises Cookstown High pupils on technology award
ULSTER Unionist Party Assembly Member for Mid-Ulster, Sandra Overend, has congratulated pupils from Cookstown High School, Anona Weird and Daniel Brown, who won the “Best App” Award at the eircom Junior Spider Awards 2013, held in Dublin.
Speaking about the award, Sandra said: “It is great news that these pupils have won such a prestigious award, while coming up against some very stiff opposition in previous rounds and the final. It is great to see young people from Cookstown competing against the best young innovators in Ireland.
“The App which they created does a great job helping to raise eco-awareness and gives practical advice to those who download it. In this tough economic climate, we could all do with energy saving tips. The App is available to download by searching EcoSmart in your App Store, or by going to http://tinyurl.com/ecosmart12.”
Sandra, who is also the Ulster Unionist Party Spokesperson for Children and Young people, continued: “The growth in the areas of Science, Engineerings, Maths and Technology are vital for the recovery of the Northern Irish economy, and with technological innovators such as Anona and Daniel producing such good work so early bodes well for their, and our, futures.”
