Poundland store creates 20 news jobs

TWENTY jobs will be created with the opening of a Poundland store at Meadowlane shopping centre in Magherafelt later today (Thursday).

The shop will be one of eight Poundland stores opening across Northern Ireland in the run up to Christmas.

They have already had five very successful openings in Castlecourt Belfast, Ards Shopping Centre, Bow Street Mall, Banbridge and Portadown and are expecting business to thrive in the new store at Meadowlane.

Poundland are expecting their opening day in Meadowlane to be very busy indeed and have arranged 500 free giveaways for customers.

Poundland was established in April 1990 and from the start their retailing concept has been extremely simple: a range of more than 3,000 items, each offered for sale at only 1 each – representing amazing value for money.

Poundland Area Manager Damien Scullion said: “We look forward to opening and hope our customers will enjoy the shopping experience.

“At Poundland we have thousands of products at just 1 and over 70% of these are branded including Tayto, Dale Farm, Kodak, Sony, Coke, Persil and Cadburys. There are even special 2, 3 or 4 for 1 deals on offer too!”

The opening of the new 9,000 sq ft store brings the total number of new jobs Poundland have created in Northern Ireland to nearly 300 in just a few weeks.

Meadowlane manager Sarah O’Neill welcomed the new store to the centre. “The arrival of Poundland will bring the number of retailers at Meadowlane to 29. The centre was significantly enhanced through extension and refurbishment in 2006 and the introduction of Poundland will mean even more choice and value for the customers who visit Meadowlane every week.”

Meadowlane opened in 1991 and, in 2007, underwent a multi-million pound extension and refurbishment program which brought an additional 17 retail units as well as a 500-space multi-storey car park.

Other stores in Meadowlane Shopping Centre include Dunnes Stores, River Island, New Look, Boots, Iceland, Costa Coffee and O2.
