PSNI 'optimistic' for quiet Twelfth

PSNI Area Commander for Magherafelt Chief Inspector Steven Reid says police are optimistic for a quiet and incident free Twelfth of July.

“We have been working closely with parade organisers to ensure that events this weekend are peaceful and within the law,” he said.

“We acknowledge the rights of those to protest however this must be done safely, peacefully and legally.

“It is equally important than in the period leading up to the parades communities work together to ensure that life is not disrupted in our streets and neighbourhoods.

“I would urge people to be vigilant and to report all suspicious activity immediately so that it can be dealt with quickly.

“The parading season is a challenge for everyone in the community but one I am confident we can all meet. Tolerance, respect and communication are key to ensuring a positive outcome for all involved.”
