Pupils’ creations selected for tourism book
Twelve primary school pupils have been selected from more than 600 entries in a Belfast Telegraph competition which will see the childrens stories and artwork about where they live published in the Northern Ireland Tourist Boards (NITB) prestigious MyNI 2012 book. The book is a collection of local stories by people that live, work and enjoy Northern Ireland and for the 2012 edition, the year of civic pride, when Northern Ireland threw open its doors and welcomed the world, pupils from across Northern Ireland were asked to share in word and pictures what they loved about the places they live in Northern Ireland.
FOUR local primary school pupils have been selected from more than 600 entries in a competition which will see their stories and artwork about where they live published in the Northern Ireland Tourist Board’s (NITB) prestigious MyNI 2012 book. Adrian Bell from Lissan Primary School in Cookstown, Cormac Devlin from St Patrick’s Primary School in Dungannon, Mhia Cullen from Blessed Patrick O’Loughran Primary School in Castlecaulfield and Rachel McGeary from St Peter’s Primary School in Dungannon were selected alongside eight other pupils from across Northern Ireland to star in MyNI.
The book is a collection of local stories by people that live, work and enjoy Northern Ireland on a daily basis highlighting the love, pride, passion, delight and inspiration that Northern Ireland has engendered in its people.
Some stories are from famous faces, some are from ordinary, everyday people, others are stories of legends and some focus on the simplicity and beauty of everyday life. Adrian’s story explains how he likes going to Lissan House as his great Grandmother used to work there; Cormac writes about the Old Cross of Ardboe and Lough Neagh; Mhia talks about Newcastle and Tayto Castle and Rachel highlights her favourite things about Armagh.
NITB Campaigns Marketing Officer, Eimear Callaghan, said: “The MyNI publication, which was first produced in 2009 has proven to be very popular. As 2012 was such a special year for everyone in Northern Ireland we decided to add a few more chapters into this book and ask the younger generation for their stories. “We got a great response from right across Northern Ireland and it was very difficult to select just 12 stories from the entries. The pupils were so enthusiastic and painted Northern Ireland as a wonderful place to live and play.
“They showed great passion for their local areas and I’m sure some of their stories will encourage people to visit their hometowns.”
The winning pupils were invited to a ceremony at the Ulster Museum where they saw their work published for the first time.
