Santa’s Grotto and Wishing Well opens at Meadowlane

A TRIO of lucky local kids got a sneak peek at the Santa’s Grotto and Wishing Well which officially opened at Magherafelt’s Meadowlane shopping Centre on Sunday.

Marcus Beattie (4) and sisters Amy (6) and Leona Martin (4) got an impromptu preview of the grotto during a shopping trip on November 13 before it opened on November 18.

Children visiting the grotto on Sunday got to meet Santa and also the real Rudolf the reindeer!

This year, kids can also throw money into a magical Wishing Well and make a Christmas wish with all proceeds going to Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children. Reindeer dust can also be bought for just £1 in Meadowlane stores.

Centre manager, Sarah O’Neill, explained that all proceeds from the Wishing Well, which will run until Christmas Eve, go to Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children.

“We are delighted to be paired up with such a worthwhile charity this year. Our grotto is very popular and the wishing well is a great way to raise funds for local children with cancer and their families. I would urge parents to pop down over the holidays so their kids can see Santa arriving and get into the festive sprit.”

NICFC Community fundraiser, Natasha Walsh, is thrilled that proceeds from the Wishing Well will be donated to the charity which offers practical, emotional and financial support to kids with cancer and their families.

“It is heartening to see kids helping other kids at Christmas. Cancer steals childhood, but as charity we try to rebuild it. This money will help us provide vital services such as one-to-one and ward support and will go towards the redevelopment of our Shimna Valley therapeutic respite centre in Newcastle, Co. Down,” she said.

From Monday 10th December through to Friday 14th December, several local schools will be taking part in Meadowlane’s annual carol singing event. This year the children will not only be carol singing and bringing some festive spirit to the people of Magherafelt, but they will also be collecting donations for NICFC while they sing. Come along that week to hear the carol singing and give generously to this worthy charity!
