Scrap metal taken from Desertmartin bonfire

TRAVELLERS are believed to have removed scrap metal from the debris of the July 11 bonfire in Desertmartin.

Workers from Magherafelt Council usually get the job of clearing bonfire sites but when they arrived in the village they found most of the scrap metalleft behind by tyres had been taken to be sold.

Meanwhile, councillors heard that the council had cleaned twobonfire sites at Mill Park, Tobermore and Beechland Drive, Magherafelt.

The remains of a large bonfire which had been lit on the soccer pitch at Riverside, Castledawson was cleared by the organisers.
